Russet: These are hardy potatoes, great for long-term storage. They make great bakers!

Red: A fresh red-skinned, potato---great for all your favorite dishes. No need to peel.

Yukon Gold: A brown-skinned and gold-fleshed potato. Firm and wonderful!

Shepody: A great potato for making fries.

These potatoes are packaged in 50 lb bags with dirt left on them for longer storage. They will be harvested in Sept. Last year, we drove up, watched them harvest and bag them; then we loaded them up and brought them home. They were that fresh!

The Russets will last through the winter and into spring in ideal conditions. (cool and dark) The Reds, Yukons and Shepody are not as hardy and should be used first. The idea for long-term storage is to mimic the natural underground conditions potatoes thrive in!

A great tip for storing potatoes: In a large plastic garbage can, layer and cover the potatoes in sawdust, and store in the garage. The friend that shared this tip told me his potatoes lasted into April last year. And it’s a lot less work than digging a root cellar!

Another tip: If you are not using the potatoes as quickly as you thought, dehydrate them for soups and casseroles!
