Powdered Milk from Maple Island—February 16, 2009

We got a great deal on Maple Island milk! (See bottom of page for FAQs)

This is the best milk around—comes from the same creamery as Country Creamer Milk and the milk we usually get from Walton Feed!

–It is instant non-fat milk.

–There are 3 lbs per #10 can which makes about 4 gallons of milk.

–There are 6 cans per case.

–Also available is a 50 lb bag. It makes 60 gallons of milk. This is a great deal if you can use it in your baking within a year!

It is preferable to store milk in the cans as it will last well over 10 years. The advantage of buying their cans over canning your own (besides avoiding the mess) is that they nitrogen flush their cans for extra storability.

FAQs:

Is this as good as Morning Moo? Good question! Morning Moo is not milk! Morning Moo is not even considered a dairy product! Morning Moo may taste good, but it is because it is whey mixed with sugar and preservatives! (Sorry to those of you who didn't know!) This is REAL milk.

Yeah! But does it taste good? It tastes great! In fact, I will have samples here shortly for any who would like to try it! It has a much more robust flavor than skim milk in the stores!

What are the ingredients? Milk! Fortified milk with Vitamins A and D!

What if I don't like "nonfat" milk, can I get whole milk? Whole milk powder doesn't keep because the fat goes rancid.  The only way to store milk for any extended period of time is to store nonfat milk.  See the recipe section for a great way to add some fat back into the milk and make it taste even better when you drink it!

Is it from cows that are not fed hormones? They do not certify that. Their milk comes from many different dairies.

I will attach a sign up sheet for those of you who want to pass this around to your group.
